Outfield Controls
Keybinds and audio setup for a game where every input can make noise.
Outfield is a first-person survival horror roguelite on Steam where the enemy hears you. Controls are not just comfort — they decide whether you sprint into a footstep death, fumble a reload, or miss the audio cue that says the hunter turned toward you. This hub collects default keybinds, audio configuration, and setup notes for Windows players ahead of the July 29, 2026 launch.
Developer Mathis Debaussart ships English and French interfaces. Exact binds may change between preview builds and release; we update child pages when Updates confirms differences.

Two pages cover most day-one questions:
- Keybinds — movement, aim, shoot, reload, interact, sprint, crouch, and menu keys.
- Audio Settings — volume sliders, headphone setup, and why sound mix wins runs.
Read Keybinds before your first serious run from Getting Started. Read Audio Settings before you rely on Stealth and Sound tactics.
Why controls matter in Outfield
Most shooters treat inputs as reflex. Outfield adds noise cost:
- Sprint covers ground faster but stacks footstep risk.
- Shooting is necessary for scarecrows but broadcasts location — see Scarecrow and XP.
- Reload creates predictable quiet windows enemies can exploit if you mis-time them.
- Interact may trigger props during Secrets and Exploration.
Bindings that keep your fingers on movement keys without awkward reach reduce panic inputs — the kind that add accidental sprint at night when vision drops per Day, Night and Weather.
Recommended setup flow
Before launching from Steam:
- Verify minimum specs on the Official Links Steam page — 16 GB RAM and a GTX 1060 class GPU are listed minimums.
- Open Keybinds page and mirror defaults or set strafe-heavy WASD you already use in FPS titles.
- Configure Audio Settings with headphones; stereo support is listed on Steam.
- Disable unused peripheral software that steals keys.
- Jump into a short run and test walk vs sprint noise before farming XP.
After your first death, adjust one variable at a time — sensitivity, sprint toggle, or music volume — so you know what helped.

Graphics and accessibility notes
Steam lists custom volume controls and stereo sound. Graphics settings exist to help lower-end devices per store system requirements. If night readability is hard, lower effects or adjust brightness within allowed menus — but do not mute hunter cues chasing visibility. Balance changes belong in Audio Settings, not by silencing effects entirely.
Outfield is single-player with no multiplayer at launch, so bindings target solo play only.
Steam Input and remapping
Steam Input can remap controller or unusual keyboards, but Outfield is tagged FPS / first-person on Steam. Mouse and keyboard remain the expected competitive setup for precision aim on scarecrows and quiet micro-adjustments in grass.
Document any official controller support in Updates when confirmed; until then, treat MKB as primary.
Keeping this hub updated
Launch-week patches often tweak defaults — sprint toggle, hold vs tap crouch, interact key conflicts. We mirror verified defaults on Keybinds and note patch lines from Updates.
Community tools on Tools may add sensitivity calculators later. Promo codes on Codes do not change controls.

Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
Where are the full Outfield keybinds listed?
See the Keybinds page under this Controls hub. We document defaults and note launch patches when bindings change.
Does Outfield support controller at launch?
Steam tags emphasize first-person PC play. Mouse and keyboard are the expected primary setup until official controller support is confirmed.
Why is audio listed under Controls?
Sound is a core mechanic because the enemy hears you. Audio Settings are as important as movement binds for competitive runs.
Can I remap keys in Outfield?
Standard PC titles allow rebinding in settings. Exact menu paths will be confirmed at launch and updated on the Keybinds page.
What platforms support Outfield controls?
Outfield releases on Windows via Steam with English and French interfaces. Other platforms have not been announced.
Will control defaults change after release?
They may. Follow Updates and we will revise Keybinds and this hub when developers publish patch notes.
